Hi beautiful moms.
I am not much of a fan of processed foods or powder foods for my son. I believe what you can make at home is far more healthy and organic than market bought foods no matter how much nutrients they promise to deliver.
When my LO was 6 months old, I started making his puree food at home.
The recipe I am sharing today is the basic food I started my LO with. As he grew older I started adding more ingredients. From there on, it was mostly try and test sort of a journey. Try new food items, test his reaction, check his poop, feel his stomach for gas, alert for gags or vomits, etc etc 🙂
Frankly, when you become a mother, the mother instincts quickly jump in and you will just know-know what to do and how to proceed.
So for the basic Lentil & Rice Puree, here you go.
1 tbsp rice – washed & soaked for at least 15 mins.
1 tbsp yellow lentil – washed soaked for at least 15 mins.
Pinch of turmeric – best antibiotic.
Pinch of black pepper – helps in digestion.
1/2 tsp olive oil – prevents constipation.
Quantity for 1 serving.
Cooker Version :
I use small baby cooker, which holds up to 2 cups water at the most. Add about half cup water, soaked rice, lentils, black pepper and turmeric. Place the cooker lid and let cook for 10 minutes.
Pot Version :
Put rice, lentil, black pepper and turmeric in a small cooking pot. Add about one cup of water. Once the water starts boiling, lower the flame just so the water keeps simmering and place a lid. It should take about 20 minutes to fully cook the rice and lentil.
Once the rice and lentil are tender and cooked perfectly, blend it with a hand blender. Add a pinch of salt and olive oil.If the texture of the puree is too solid, add water until you have reached the required texture for your baby.
You know what is best 🙂
You can omit black pepper, turmeric and olive oil.
You can substitute olive oil with ghee or butter or any other oil safe for your baby.
